Satellite imagery from February 2026 has revealed a noticeable increase in U.S. military aircraft deployed at Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Airbase, a key facility used by American forces in the Gulf, as tensions with Iran remain high. According to high-resolution images, the number of aircraft at the base rose from 27 on February 17 to 43 on February 21, before slightly declining to 38 by February 25. The surge included Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker refuelling aircraft and E-3 Sentry AWACS early-warning planes, underscoring a buildup of both combat support and surveillance capabilities.
Analysts say the buildup reflects stepped-up U.S. military readiness amid a broader regional posture as Washington weighs its response to unresolved disputes with Tehran over its nuclear programme and other security concerns. Saudi Arabia, a longstanding U.S. ally, has previously stated it would not permit its territory to be used to launch military operations against Iran, even as indirect negotiations between the two adversaries continue under mediation by Oman.
The development comes amid accompanying satellite observations of military reinforcements at other regional bases, including in Jordan and Qatar, and growing international concern about the possibility of escalation if diplomatic efforts falter. U.S. officials have not publicly commented on specific deployments, adhering to typical policy of restraint on operational details.news as reported.
