In a major reaffirmation of their strategic partnership, Russia has pledged uninterrupted fuel supplies to India as part of a broader expansion of trade and defence cooperation between the two countries.

During their bilateral summit in New Delhi on 5 December 2025, Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi agreed on a roadmap to boost annual bilateral trade to USD 100 billion by 2030 — up from about USD 69 billion in 2025.

Putin, addressing reporters after the meeting, said Russia would remain a “reliable supplier of oil, gas, coal and all necessary fuel resources for India’s growing economy” and committed to “uninterrupted shipments of fuel” despite external pressures and sanctions.

Beyond energy, the two sides signed multiple agreements spanning fertilisers, maritime logistics, medical sciences, and defence — including plans for joint research, co-development and production of advanced defence platforms.

India’s leadership described energy security and defence collaboration as core pillars of the renewed partnership, underlining that this deepening cooperation is driven by shared priorities and long-standing mutual trust — irrespective of external geopolitical pressure.
