Hyderabad is experiencing an early onset of summer, with temperatures already crossing 40°C in several parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about heatwave conditions likely to persist over the coming days.
Health officials have raised concerns about an increase in heat-related illnesses, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and sunstroke. Government hospitals have reported a noticeable rise in patients seeking treatment for such conditions.
Doctors are advising residents to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours and to stay hydrated. “People must take precautions seriously, especially children and the elderly who are more vulnerable,” said a senior physician at a government hospital.
The state government has initiated measures such as setting up water kiosks in public areas and ensuring availability of emergency medical services. Schools in some districts are also considering revising timings to protect students from extreme heat.
Meanwhile, environmental experts have linked the rising temperatures to urbanization and reduced green cover in the city. They emphasize the need for sustainable urban planning and increased plantation drives to combat long-term climate effects.
Residents are urged to follow safety guidelines and remain alert as temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming weeks.
