Residents in Bengaluru are facing higher food costs as restaurants across the city increase menu prices due to rising LPG cylinder rates and supply shortages. Industry estimates suggest that prices of popular dishes such as dosa and biryani have risen by 3% to 10% in recent weeks.
Small and mid-sized eateries are particularly affected, with many reporting a sharp reduction in LPG supply—from four cylinders per cycle to just one in some cases. This shortage has forced some establishments to procure gas from alternative sources at higher costs.
Restaurant owners say the increase in LPG prices, combined with rising costs of cooking oil and other ingredients, has made it difficult to maintain previous pricing. Customers have already begun noticing the difference, with some dishes becoming ₹20–₹30 more expensive.
Industry representatives indicated that while larger restaurants may absorb some of the cost increases, smaller establishments are left with little choice but to pass them on to consumers. Many eateries are also operating below full capacity due to supply constraints.
Consumers have expressed concern over the rising cost of living, particularly as food expenses form a significant part of household budgets. Experts warn that if fuel price volatility continues, further price hikes could follow.
