Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid a heartfelt tribute to Aalin Sherin Abraham, a 10-month-old baby from Kerala who became the state’s youngest organ donor, during the 131st episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. He honoured the courage and compassion shown by Aalin’s parents, who, amid deep personal grief, chose to donate her organs and help others in need.

Aalin, originally from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district, suffered critical injuries in a road accident earlier this month. After being declared brain dead at a hospital in Kochi, her parents — Arun Abraham and Sherin — made the difficult decision to consent to organ donation, a choice that ultimately saved multiple lives. The liver, kidneys, heart valve and other tissues were successfully transplanted into patients who required urgent medical intervention.

In his address, the Prime Minister acknowledged the immense sorrow of losing a child so young, noting that “there is no greater grief for any parent.” Yet he emphasised that the family’s decision in the face of tragedy “filled every citizen’s heart with respect” and served as a profound example of selflessness. He said their act was a reminder of how even in the darkest moments, human compassion can bring hope and new life to others.

The story of Aalin has already resonated widely, highlighting the importance of organ donation awareness and its impact on life-saving medical care. It has also sparked broader conversations about the need to strengthen organ donation systems, promote education around donation, and support bereaved families who choose to donate as a gift of life to others.

Kerala authorities and community members have remembered Aalin’s contribution with deep respect, and her legacy continues to inspire many across the country to consider the life-changing impact of organ donation.
