Chennai police have approached a magistrate court seeking permission to conduct an identification parade for the three suspects arrested in connection with the gruesome triple murder at Taramani’s Central Polytechnic College on January 25. The move is aimed at formally confirming the involvement of the accused — identified as Sathyendran (33), Lalit Prasad (45) and Vikas Kumar (24) — in the killings.
The victims — Gaurav Kumar (25), his wife Munithakumari (20) and their two-year-old son Birmani Kumar — were found murdered in a room on the fourth floor of the Chemical Institute of Technology building. The crime shocked the city due to its brutality and the victims’ young age. Police have already sealed the crime scene and are awaiting detailed post-mortem reports to strengthen the evidence before filing a chargesheet.
According to investigators, the murder followed an altercation during alcohol consumption between Gaurav and the suspects. After the fatal attack with an iron rod, the body of Gaurav was reportedly taken on a motorcycle and dumped near a two-wheeler workshop at Indira Nagar, indicating an attempt to mislead the investigation team.
Police say they also have documentary and forensic evidence pending analysis, and custodial interrogation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita may be sought later if deemed necessary.
