Thiruvananthapuram, January 23, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday underscored that Kerala’s development is essential for India’s overall growth and progress, while inaugurating and launching several major infrastructure and welfare projects in the state capital. Addressing a large gathering in Thiruvananthapuram, Modi highlighted that Kerala’s rising connectivity, welfare schemes, and innovation initiatives are part of a broader effort to strengthen the socioeconomic fabric of the nation.

During the event, the Prime Minister flagged off four new train services, including three Amrit Bharat Express trains and one passenger service — a move he said will significantly boost rail connectivity for Kerala with neighbouring states and improve travel for commuters, students, workers and tourists alike. He said enhanced connectivity would help unlock the state’s tourism and trade potential.

Modi also launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card scheme, a part of the street vendor credit initiative, and announced the disbursal of loans to over 1 lakh beneficiaries under the programme. He described this as a nationwide welfare initiative that began from Kerala and will empower small vendors and hawkers with easier access to formal credit.

The Prime Minister noted that central government schemes such as PM Awas Yojana, which has helped build millions of homes for the urban poor across India — including thousands in Kerala — reflect a consistent effort to promote inclusive development. He also pointed to investments in science, innovation and healthcare infrastructure, including facilities like a Radiosurgery Centre and innovation hubs, as key drivers of Kerala’s future growth.

Modi stressed that cities and states like Kerala play a pivotal role in shaping a developed India, and that sustained cooperation between the Centre and states will accelerate progress across sectors, from transport and livelihood to technology and welfare.
