Pimpri-Chinchwad has emerged as the most polluted city in Maharashtra, raising serious concerns over deteriorating air quality and its impact on public health. Recent air quality readings have shown pollutant levels well above permissible limits, with particulate matter posing the greatest threat to residents.

Experts attribute the worsening conditions to a combination of heavy vehicular traffic, rapid construction activity, and emissions from industrial units concentrated in and around the city. Dust from ongoing infrastructure projects and poorly regulated waste burning have further aggravated the situation, particularly during early morning and evening hours when pollution tends to accumulate.

Health professionals report a steady increase in cases of respiratory ailments, allergies, and eye irritation, especially among children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing lung or heart conditions. Residents have been advised to limit outdoor activities, use masks, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Civic authorities have acknowledged the problem and announced measures such as stricter monitoring of industrial emissions, dust control at construction sites, and efforts to improve public transport to reduce vehicular pollution. Environmental groups, however, stress that long-term solutions are essential, including cleaner fuel adoption, better urban planning, and sustained enforcement of pollution control norms.
