Police authorities in Hyderabad recently arrested a Nigerian national who had allegedly been living in India illegally for several years after overstaying his visa. The arrest was carried out by the EAGLE task force, a special police unit responsible for tackling illegal activities and immigration violations in the city.
According to officials, the individual had entered India on a valid visa but continued to stay in the country for nearly eight years after the visa expired. During this time, he reportedly managed to avoid detection by frequently changing his residence and maintaining a low profile. Authorities eventually tracked him down following intelligence inputs and surveillance operations.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Hyderabad law enforcement agencies to monitor immigration compliance and identify foreigners living illegally in the city. Police officials stated that special teams have been conducting regular inspections and verification drives in areas where foreign nationals commonly reside.
After the arrest, the accused was taken into custody and further legal procedures were initiated. Authorities are also investigating whether he was involved in any other unlawful activities during his extended stay in the country. Immigration authorities may begin deportation proceedings once the legal process is completed.
Officials emphasized that overstaying a visa is a serious violation under Indian law. Foreign nationals are required to follow visa conditions strictly and renew or exit the country before their authorized stay expires.
The police have warned that strict action will continue against individuals who violate immigration rules. They also encouraged residents to inform authorities if they notice suspicious activities involving illegal foreign residents.
