Hyderabad, July 21: South Central Railway (SCR) has commissioned the newly constructed Lallaguda–Sitaphalmandi chord rail line, a major infrastructure project expected to significantly improve rail connectivity and operational efficiency in Hyderabad. The new line is projected to reduce train travel time by approximately 30 minutes, benefiting both passengers and railway operations.
The newly inaugurated chord line provides a direct rail link between Lallaguda and Sitaphalmandi, eliminating the need for several trains to take longer routes through congested railway sections. Railway officials said the project is part of SCR’s ongoing efforts to modernize the rail network and enhance operational capacity in the Hyderabad division.
According to South Central Railway, the new route will help streamline train movements, reduce congestion at key junctions, and improve punctuality. Passenger trains, express services, and freight operations are all expected to benefit from the enhanced connectivity. By reducing operational bottlenecks, the railway aims to provide faster and more reliable services for commuters across the region.
Officials noted that the chord line will also allow more efficient utilization of railway infrastructure by easing pressure on busy corridors. The reduction in travel time is expected to improve scheduling flexibility and enable smoother movement of trains, particularly during peak traffic hours.
The project forms part of the Indian Railways’ broader modernization and capacity enhancement initiatives aimed at improving passenger convenience and supporting the growing transportation needs of major urban centres. Hyderabad, one of South India’s busiest railway hubs, has witnessed several infrastructure upgrades in recent years to accommodate increasing passenger and freight traffic.
Passengers have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the new rail link will contribute to more punctual services and shorter journey times. Railway authorities stated that they will continue monitoring operations on the new line and undertake additional improvements wherever necessary to further strengthen the city’s rail network.
The commissioning of the Lallaguda–Sitaphalmandi chord line marks another significant milestone in Hyderabad’s railway infrastructure development, reinforcing the city’s position as a key transportation hub in southern India while enhancing overall operational efficiency for Indian Railways.
