Bengaluru is set to witness major infrastructure improvements aimed at tackling its notorious traffic congestion. Authorities have announced two key projects: a 1.6-km elevated flyover at Mehkri Circle and a new metro walkway at Silk Board Junction.

The Mehkri Circle flyover, estimated to cost around ₹420 crore, is designed to reduce congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas. It will include multiple ramps and an elevated rotary system to improve traffic flow toward Yeshwantpur and Jayamahal. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

In addition, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is building a 250-meter elevated walkway at Silk Board Junction. This walkway will connect the Yellow Line with the upcoming Blue Line of Namma Metro.

A key highlight of the walkway is the introduction of Bengaluru’s first travelator (moving walkway), similar to those seen in airports. This will make it easier for commuters to switch between metro lines, especially since Silk Board will not function as a direct interchange station.

These projects are part of a broader effort to improve urban mobility in Bengaluru. With increasing traffic and population growth, such infrastructure upgrades are essential to ensure smoother commuting.

If completed on schedule, these developments could significantly reduce travel time and improve connectivity across the city, making daily commutes more efficient for lakhs of residents.
