To tackle severe traffic congestion, Bengaluru authorities have announced the construction of a 1.6-kilometre elevated flyover at Mehkri Circle, one of the city’s busiest junctions. The project, led by the Bangalore Development Authority, is estimated to cost around ₹420 crore.
The proposed flyover will run from near the Veterinary College area to Mehkri Circle, featuring a four-lane elevated corridor and a rotary junction. It will also include two downramps connecting to major routes such as CV Raman Road and Jayamahal, improving connectivity to key parts of the city.
Authorities reissued the tender in March 2026 after revising the alignment to address congestion near the Raman Research Institute. The construction is expected to take about 18 months once work begins. Importantly, the project does not require additional land acquisition, although it needed clearances from nearby defence establishments.
This flyover is part of a broader infrastructure push that includes plans for an east-west elevated corridor and a proposed tunnel from Hebbal. Integration with the upcoming Namma Metro Red Line (Hebbal–Sarjapur) is also under consideration, pending central approval.
Traffic congestion has long been a major issue in Bengaluru, affecting daily commuters and economic productivity. Officials believe this project will significantly reduce travel time and improve traffic flow in the northern part of the city.
If executed successfully, the Mehkri Circle flyover could become a key solution in easing Bengaluru’s chronic traffic problems and improving overall urban mobility.
