The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has updated its heatwave preparedness guidelines as temperatures surge across several central Indian states. With the mercury rising sharply in regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, authorities have intensified monitoring and response measures to minimize health risks and infrastructure strain.
Officials stated that district administrations have been directed to activate heat action plans, ensure adequate drinking water supply, and coordinate with health departments to manage heat-related illnesses. Hospitals and primary health centres have been advised to remain on alert, with additional cooling arrangements and emergency medical support in place.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast above-normal temperatures in several districts over the coming days, prompting advisories for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and outdoor workers. Public awareness campaigns are being conducted to encourage citizens to stay hydrated, avoid peak afternoon exposure, and recognize early symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
