In a major step toward improving urban mobility, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced plans to construct an elevated pedestrian walkway at the busy Silk Board Junction. The proposed 250-metre-long structure will connect the operational Yellow Line with the upcoming Blue Line, easing commuter movement in one of the city’s most congested corridors.

The project, estimated to cost around ₹59 crore, will feature Bengaluru Metro’s first travelator—a moving walkway typically seen in airports—to facilitate faster transit between the two lines. Officials said the walkway is necessary because Silk Board will not function as a direct interchange station like Majestic or MG Road.

Authorities have already floated tenders for the project, and land acquisition is currently underway. Once the contractor is finalized, construction is expected to be completed within nine months. The Blue Line, which will run along the Outer Ring Road and eventually connect to Kempegowda International Airport, is scheduled for completion by December 2026.

Urban planners have welcomed the move, noting that such infrastructure is crucial for a rapidly expanding city like Bengaluru. However, commuters remain cautious, citing delays in previous metro projects.

If completed on schedule, the Silk Board walkway could significantly reduce congestion and improve last-mile connectivity in the area.
