In a major infrastructure boost, the Telangana government has approved a large-scale project to upgrade over 1,000 kilometers of roads across Hyderabad. The initiative, part of the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP), is estimated to cost around ₹3,145 crore and will be implemented in phases over the next decade (2026–2036).
The project will cover key areas under the Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri municipal corporations. It includes the development and repair of bituminous (BT) and cement concrete (CC) roads, along with improvements to footpaths, medians, signage, and drainage systems like manholes and catch pits.
Advanced construction methods such as Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology will also be used in certain stretches to enhance durability and reduce long-term maintenance costs. In addition, nearly 400 kilometers of approach roads are included in the plan, some of which are already under construction.
Interestingly, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will fund the entire project using its own general funds, without relying on state government financial assistance. Detailed project reports will be prepared before tendering begins.
This ambitious plan aims to improve road quality, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance overall urban mobility in Hyderabad—a city that has been experiencing rapid growth in population and vehicle usage. Better road infrastructure is expected to not only ease daily commuting but also support economic activity and urban development in the region.
