The Telangana government has approved a large-scale infrastructure initiative to upgrade roads across Hyderabad, aiming to improve traffic flow and urban mobility. Under Phase 2 of the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP), more than 1,000 km of roads will be redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹3,145 crore.

The project will cover areas under multiple civic bodies, including Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri zones. Officials say the plan is designed not just for repairs but for long-term maintenance, with funding allocated over a 10-year period from 2026 to 2036.

The works include resurfacing damaged roads, constructing cement concrete stretches in flood-prone areas, and using advanced techniques such as Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) for durability. In addition, authorities plan to upgrade footpaths, install proper road markings, improve signage, and repair drainage systems like manholes and catch pits.

A key focus of the initiative is improving commuter safety and reducing travel time in congested areas. Officials believe that better road conditions will also reduce vehicle maintenance costs and accidents.

However, some urban planners have raised concerns about execution delays and coordination between departments. Previous projects have faced criticism for slow progress and inconvenience to the public during construction.

Despite these challenges, the government maintains that this is one of the most comprehensive road development plans in recent years. If implemented efficiently, it could significantly enhance Hyderabad’s infrastructure and support its rapid urban growth.
