CHENNAI — Tamil Nadu police arrested a 45-year-old man on Tuesday in connection with the sexual assault of a Class XII student, authorities confirmed. The accused, identified as Vinoth Kumar, who runs an electrical shop in Mambakkam near Thiruporur, was taken into custody after a complaint was filed by the victim’s parents at the Mamallapuram All-Women Police Station.
According to the police, the incident occurred when the girl was at home while her parents were away at work. Upon returning, the student informed them of the alleged assault, prompting the family to immediately approach law enforcement. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and began a detailed investigation into the matter.
Vinoth Kumar was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody as the probe continues. Officers are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to build the case for prosecution.
