In a major anti-narcotics drive, police in Kochi have intensified their crackdown on synthetic drug networks, leading to multiple arrests across different parts of the city. The operations are part of a wider effort to curb the growing threat of drug trafficking and substance abuse, particularly among youth.
According to recent reports, at least six individuals were arrested in two separate cases involving synthetic drugs, including MDMA. In one incident, two suspects were caught transporting a significant quantity of MDMA, reportedly around 550 grams, concealed in a specially designed container. Investigations revealed that the accused were part of a larger distribution network operating across cities.
In another case, four individuals were arrested from a hotel near the airport area with smaller quantities of the drug, allegedly intended for local distribution. Authorities stated that some of the accused had prior criminal records, indicating repeated involvement in drug-related activities.
Additionally, police have carried out separate operations in areas like Edappally, where individuals were arrested for possession of MDMA. These actions are part of a coordinated strategy involving special anti-narcotics units, including DANSAF, working alongside local police teams.
Officials have noted that the crackdown has been intensified ahead of the ongoing election period, with increased surveillance, raids, and intelligence-based operations being conducted across the district. The focus is not only on arresting offenders but also on dismantling larger drug supply chains.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is essential in tackling the rising drug menace. With continued enforcement and strict monitoring, police aim to ensure safer communities and reduce the spread of narcotics in the region.
