The government of Kerala has introduced a revised allowance system for officers belonging to the All-India Services (AIS), including IAS, IPS, and Indian Forest Service officers working in the state. The new system replaces the older allowance structure and significantly increases the monthly benefits provided to these officers.

Under the revised rule, the allowance is now linked to the state’s minimum daily wage, which means the amount will automatically increase whenever the minimum wage rate is revised in the future. This new formula replaces the earlier system that had fixed amounts based on rank.

With the change, junior-level officers will receive around ₹19,170 per month, while senior officials at the level of principal secretary and above will receive about ₹38,340 per month. Earlier, the maximum allowance for top-level officers was about ₹11,400 per month, making the new revision a significant increase.

The decision came after representations from AIS officers who had raised concerns that the previous allowance structure had become outdated and insufficient due to increased work responsibilities and rising living costs. The new system aims to provide better support for official and domestic requirements related to their duties.

The allowance will apply to officers serving within the state, including those on deputation in Kerala departments. However, officers working on central deputation or those under suspension will not be eligible for the benefit.

Officials say the revised allowance structure is intended to modernize the compensation system and align it with current economic conditions, while also ensuring that senior administrative officers receive adequate support for their responsibilities in the state administration.
