The Kerala government has successfully evacuated three residents from Palakkad who were stranded in Karachi due to widespread flight diversions and cancellations linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The move comes as part of coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of Indian citizens abroad during global airspace disruptions triggered by ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The evacuees — all originally from Palakkad — had been unable to secure timely flights out of Pakistan’s largest city after international routes were rerouted or suspended. Their return was facilitated through emergency arrangements involving the Kerala External Affairs Department, the Indian Embassy in Pakistan, and state government officials in Thiruvananthapuram.

According to state authorities, the evacuees were lodged temporarily at a safe accommodation arranged through consular support while travel arrangements were finalised. With diplomatic coordination and careful logistical planning, the Kerala government secured seats on repatriation flights that operated via alternate routes, enabling the safe return of all three individuals to India.

Officials highlighted that the effort reflects a broader commitment to protecting the welfare of Kerala’s large expatriate population, particularly amid periods of international uncertainty. Flight disruptions in the region have affected thousands of travellers, prompting both state and central governments to monitor the situation closely.

The returnees are reported to have expressed relief upon arrival, noting the stress of being stranded and appreciative of the swift action taken by authorities. Family members in Palakkad welcomed them back warmly, describing the evacuation as a “blessing” amid challenging travel conditions.

Kerala officials have indicated that contingency plans remain in place to assist additional citizens in similar situations. They reiterated that evacuees can contact designated helplines and consular channels if they encounter travel difficulties abroad due to ongoing flight irregularities.

The successful evacuation underscores the heightened focus on citizen safety during international crises and the importance of proactive coordination between state and diplomatic missions in supporting Indians overseas.
