Kerala has officially entered the mandatory “silent campaign period” as preparations intensify for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for April 9. The high-voltage election campaigning, which lasted for several weeks, came to a close on the evening of April 7, marking a crucial transition from political outreach to voter decision-making.

The silence period, which lasts for 48 hours before polling, is enforced under election regulations to ensure a free and fair voting environment. During this time, all forms of public campaigning—including rallies, roadshows, public meetings, and media promotions—are strictly prohibited. Authorities have also banned processions, entertainment events, and any activity that could influence voters.

The Election Commission has implemented these measures to allow voters to reflect and make independent choices without external pressure. Political leaders and campaign workers who are not registered voters in specific constituencies have been directed to leave those areas to maintain neutrality during the final phase.

The recently concluded campaign witnessed intense political activity, with major alliances making strong final appeals to voters. The focus now shifts entirely to the electorate, as millions of voters are expected to cast their ballots across all 140 constituencies in the state.

Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened across Kerala to ensure smooth and peaceful polling. Thousands of personnel, including central forces, have been deployed, and sensitive polling booths are under special surveillance. Additionally, restrictions such as a temporary liquor ban have been imposed as part of pre-election protocols.

With campaigning now officially over, the state stands ready for a decisive electoral moment. The outcome of the election will play a crucial role in shaping Kerala’s political landscape for the next five years, as voters prepare to exercise their democratic right.
