Kerala’s Chief Minister has called on the Government of India to take urgent measures to ensure the safety and security of Keralite expatriates living in the Gulf region, as tensions in the Middle East escalate. The appeal comes amid reports of increasing conflict and instability in key Gulf countries, raising concerns for thousands of Keralites who reside, work and study in those areas.

In a statement issued from Thiruvananthapuram, the Chief Minister highlighted that the safety of Indian nationals abroad—especially those from Kerala, where a large portion of the workforce is employed in Gulf states—is of “paramount importance.” He urged the central government to enhance diplomatic engagement, strengthen consular support services, and consider additional evacuation preparedness plans if the situation deteriorates further.

Officials noted that recent developments in the Middle East have led to travel advisories and anxiety among migrant communities. Many Keralites depend on remittances sent from the Gulf for their families back home, and any disruption could have both humanitarian and economic repercussions.

The Chief Minister’s appeal comes as part of a broader dialogue with central authorities, including the Ministry of External Affairs, to coordinate on real-time monitoring of the situation and streamlined communication channels for distressed citizens. He also urged embassy officials to provide clear and timely updates to expatriate communities and their families.

Representatives of Kerala associations in the Gulf have welcomed the government’s proactive stance, saying that many families are facing uncertainty due to recent geopolitical events. Some community leaders have also called for temporary support structures and counselling services for those affected by fear and financial stress.

The state administration is reportedly compiling data on Keralites in affected regions to assist Indian diplomatic missions with evacuation or aid priorities if required. Officials emphasised Kerala’s long history of engagement with its diaspora and the need for strong protective frameworks for citizens abroad.

The Chief Minister’s appeal underscores the interconnected nature of global conflict and local communities in Kerala, where migrant welfare remains a central public concern. As geopolitical tensions continue, both state and central authorities are expected to coordinate closely on safety measures and support for Indian nationals overseas.
