Kerala Blasters FC have made a significant addition to their squad ahead of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025–26 season with the signing of Spanish midfielder Matías Hernández. The club officially confirmed the acquisition on January 27, 2026, marking another strategic move as they bolster their midfield depth and tactical options before the campaign kicks off.

Hernández, a 1.86-metre defensive midfielder from Salamanca, Spain, arrives at the Kochi-based club following his stint with Gokulam Kerala FC. Known for his physical presence and tactical discipline, he is capable of playing not only as a defensive midfielder but also adapting to roles as a centre-back or deeper central midfielder depending on the team’s strategy. His versatility is expected to provide valuable balance to the Blasters’ midfield structure, particularly in breaking up opposition play and initiating forward transitions.

In a club statement, Kerala Blasters CEO Abhik Chatterjee highlighted the importance of Hernández’s experience and adaptability, noting that his familiarity with Indian football conditions gives the team an added advantage as preparations intensify ahead of the new season. The Spanish signing is seen as a key piece to strengthen the team’s engine room, enhance control over the tempo of matches, and add defensive solidity in midfield areas.

Hernández expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating he is ready to embrace the challenge, work hard, and contribute fully to the Blasters’ objectives for the season. He will join his new teammates in Kochi as the squad ramps up training and gears up for the league’s start in mid-February.

This signing continues Kerala Blasters’ recent transfer momentum, following other additions aimed at reinforcing key areas across the squad and ensuring competitive performances in the upcoming ISL season.
