Bengaluru, July 15: Karnataka has once again reaffirmed its reputation as India’s premier swimming powerhouse after 18 swimmers from the state were selected for the 40-member Indian contingent that will compete in the 12th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 17 to 25, 2026. The impressive representation means nearly half of India’s squad comes from Karnataka, reflecting the state’s consistent excellence in producing elite swimmers.
Leading the Indian challenge is Dhinidhi Desinghu, one of the country’s brightest swimming talents, who is expected to play a key role in India’s medal hopes. The championships will feature competitions across three age categories—Group A (17–18 years), Group B (15–16 years), and Group C (13–14 years)—bringing together Asia’s finest young swimmers. Karnataka athletes have secured places in multiple freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, medley, and relay events.
The selection highlights Karnataka’s long-standing investment in swimming infrastructure, world-class coaching, and athlete development. Bengaluru, in particular, has produced several national champions and Olympians over the years through renowned training centres and experienced coaches. The state’s swimmers have consistently dominated national championships, earning places in international competitions and strengthening India’s presence on the global stage.
Officials from the Swimming Federation of India expressed confidence that the young Indian team can deliver an impressive performance in Bangkok. The Asian Age Group Championships are considered one of the continent’s most important junior aquatic events, offering emerging athletes valuable international exposure and serving as a stepping stone toward future Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Olympic participation.
Sports experts believe Karnataka’s overwhelming representation reflects the state’s well-established talent pipeline and sustained emphasis on grassroots sports development.
