The Karnataka government has announced a significant infrastructure push for Bengaluru as part of the state budget for 2026-27. The budget includes major investments aimed at improving roads, traffic management, and urban infrastructure across the rapidly growing city.
According to officials, more than ₹1,200 crore has been allocated for ward-level road development across Bengaluru’s municipal corporations. The funds will be used to repair roads, upgrade junctions, and enhance pedestrian infrastructure to improve overall mobility in the city.
In addition to road development, the government plans to modernize 175 major traffic junctions in Bengaluru. These improvements are expected to ease congestion, which has become one of the city’s most pressing urban challenges due to its rapid population growth and increasing number of vehicles.
The budget also includes environmental initiatives such as the creation of the Basavanna Biological Park and a leopard rehabilitation centre at Bannerghatta National Park. These projects aim to address wildlife conservation while managing conflicts between animals and nearby residential areas.
Urban planners believe that these investments could significantly improve Bengaluru’s infrastructure if implemented efficiently. The city has long struggled with traffic congestion, potholes, and pressure on civic amenities due to rapid urbanization and expansion of the IT industry.
Government officials have stated that the infrastructure projects are part of a broader strategy to make Bengaluru a more livable and sustainable metropolitan city in the coming years.
