In a move aimed at easing financial pressure on residents, the Karnataka government has launched a one-time settlement scheme for water bill defaulters in Bengaluru.

Under the scheme, consumers who pay their pending principal amount between April and June 2026 will have all accumulated interest waived. The initiative covers domestic, commercial, and industrial users and is expected to benefit lakhs of households across the city.

According to official data, out of approximately 11 lakh water connections in the city, more than 5 lakh have outstanding dues. The total unpaid amount stands at over ₹850 crore, with a significant portion being interest penalties.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will notify consumers of their dues and provide multiple payment options, including online portals and kiosks, to facilitate easy settlement.

The scheme comes at a time when water demand in the city is rising sharply due to summer conditions and increasing population pressure. Authorities hope the initiative will not only provide relief to citizens but also improve the financial health of the water board.

Residents have been encouraged to take advantage of the limited-time offer and clear their dues to avoid future penalties. The move is seen as a practical step toward improving water management and ensuring sustainable supply in the rapidly growing city.
