International Energy Festival of Kerala 2026 inaugurated at KUFOS with focus on sustainable energy future — The third International Energy Festival of Kerala (IEFK 2026) kicked off on the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) campus in Panangad, Kochi, under the theme “Empower, Energy Future.” The event was inaugurated online by Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty, who stressed the critical importance of energy self-sufficiency and sustainable development for the state.
The festival, running through February 9, 2026, serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and community engagement around clean energy solutions. A central highlight is the Green Expo, where visitors can explore a wide range of modern and eco-friendly technologies, including electric vehicles, solar energy systems, energy-efficient home appliances, and related products aimed at promoting cleaner alternatives.
To make sustainable practices more accessible, the festival features ‘e-cooking’ sessions that teach households how to use electrical energy safely and economically in daily cooking, potentially reshaping energy habits at the grassroots level. There are also awareness workshops on boiler safety, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and battery storage solutions, conducted with expert input from departments such as the electrical inspectorate and factories and boilers department.
Organised in collaboration with national and international partners like the Global Green Growth Institute and the Atomic Energy Repairs Association, IEFK 2026 also includes seminars, panel discussions, and talks featuring scientists, policymakers and industry leaders. Discussions range from cutting-edge clean energy innovation to safety aspects of emerging technologies.
A notable segment of the festival is the project expo, which showcases innovations from energy clubs across 14 districts and honours the memory of Professor V. K. Damodaran, encouraging youth participation in energy research and creative solutions.
By linking technology displays, expert talks, and community training, the International Energy Festival of Kerala aims to position the state as a model for sustainable and energy-efficient development in India and beyond.
