infrastucure growth in kerala

The Kerala government is fast‑tracking major infrastructure development projects across both urban and rural regions, aiming to boost connectivity, public services, and overall economic growth. A high‑level committee recently approved in‑principle infrastructure works worth ₹1,441 crore, covering a wide range of sectors including irrigation, energy, transport, waste management and rural development. Notable components include solar pump installations, canal renovations, construction of bridges and boat jetties, and modern warehouse facilities aimed at improving supply chains in rural districts.

In urban areas, significant progress is underway on key projects designed to enhance mobility and reduce traffic congestion. The Peroorkada flyover project in Thiruvananthapuram has received technical sanction, with tendering expected soon. The flyover will ease congestion at a busy junction and is scheduled to begin construction by March 2026.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Water Authority is pushing forward a major sewage network upgrade project in Kochi, laying new pipelines that will link key divisions to an expanded sewage treatment plant, significantly improving sanitation and reducing water pollution in canals and water bodies.

Additionally, the state has invited tenders for the Palakkad Smart City infrastructure project, a major initiative under the Kochi–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, involving extensive development of roads, drainage, water supply and sewer systems across 1,400 acres.

These accelerated infrastructure efforts underscore Kerala’s commitment to balanced urban‑rural development and enhanced quality of life for its residents.
