India has called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to adopt a stronger and more coordinated approach in combating terrorism, extremism, and separatism during the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic.
Representing India, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh emphasized that terrorism in all its forms—including cross-border terrorism, extremist ideologies, and transnational organized crime—poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He urged SCO member nations to remain firmly committed to the organization’s founding principles and to strengthen collective action against evolving security challenges.
India also reiterated its support for a more inclusive, representative, and multipolar world order, highlighting the importance of respecting international law, state sovereignty, and multilateral cooperation. The Indian delegation stressed that stronger regional partnerships are essential to address shared challenges such as terrorism, cyber threats, drug trafficking, and cross-border crime.
The meeting comes amid growing geopolitical tensions and increasing concerns over regional security in Asia. Host nation Kyrgyzstan also called for closer cooperation among SCO members, including efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism mechanisms and improve coordination on security and economic issues.
India’s remarks reaffirm its long-standing position that there should be zero tolerance for terrorism and that all member states should work together to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region.
