In a major infrastructure breakthrough, the Telangana government has secured approval to build a multi-lane underpass beneath the runway of Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. This ambitious project, approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is part of a larger plan to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the city.
The proposed underpass will connect key traffic corridors, including Suchitra Junction and Paradise Circle, which are among the busiest routes in Hyderabad. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly cut travel time and ease congestion in surrounding areas. The initiative is being described as a first-of-its-kind engineering effort in India.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy highlighted that the project aligns with the long-term “Telangana Rising 2047” vision, which aims to transform Hyderabad into a globally competitive and sustainable city. Alongside the underpass, the government is planning multiple infrastructure upgrades, including elevated corridors, metro rail expansion, and improved parking facilities.
The plan also includes redevelopment efforts such as relocating industries outside the Outer Ring Road and rejuvenating the Musi River to improve environmental conditions. Authorities have emphasized that these projects will be carried out without displacing residents.
This underpass project represents a significant step forward in urban planning and traffic management. If implemented successfully, it could set a benchmark for innovative infrastructure solutions in other Indian cities facing similar congestion challenges.
