Hyderabad, August 6: The Hyderabad City Police have intensified their cybercrime awareness campaign to educate the public about the growing threat of online frauds and digital scams. With cybercriminals increasingly targeting individuals through fake investment schemes, phishing messages, fraudulent customer-care numbers, and digital payment scams, authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant while using online services.
The awareness drive is being conducted across the city through social media platforms, public announcements, educational institutions, resident welfare associations, and community outreach programmes. Police officials are distributing informational materials explaining common cyber fraud techniques and the precautions people should take before sharing personal or financial information online.
According to the Cyber Crimes Police Station, fraudsters are increasingly impersonating bank officials, government agencies, courier companies, and customer support representatives to deceive victims into revealing sensitive information such as OTPs, passwords, banking credentials, and credit card details. Authorities have also warned against fake investment platforms that promise unusually high returns and cryptocurrency scams targeting first-time investors.
Officials have advised citizens never to click on suspicious links received through SMS, email, or messaging applications. People are also encouraged to verify website addresses before making online payments and to avoid downloading unknown applications that request unnecessary permissions or access to financial information.
As part of the campaign, Hyderabad Police have highlighted the importance of using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, regularly updating software, and monitoring bank account activity for any unauthorized transactions. Awareness sessions are also being organised in schools, colleges, corporate offices, and senior citizen groups to help different sections of society recognise and prevent cyber threats.
The police have appealed to victims of online fraud to report incidents immediately through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or by calling the national cybercrime helpline 1930. Officials said prompt reporting increases the chances of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering lost funds before they are transferred to multiple accounts.
Hyderabad Police noted that public cooperation is essential in tackling cybercrime and urged residents to remain cautious while conducting financial transactions online. Authorities emphasized that legitimate banks, government agencies, and financial institutions never ask customers to share confidential information such as OTPs, PINs, or passwords over phone calls or messages.
The intensified campaign reflects Hyderabad Police’s broader commitment to strengthening cyber security awareness as digital payments and online services continue to grow rapidly. Officials hope that informed citizens and timely reporting will significantly reduce cyber fraud incidents and help create a safer digital environment for everyone.
