Panic gripped parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday after two prominent institutions—Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTU-H) and the All India Radio (AIR) station—received bomb threat emails within minutes of each other. Authorities later confirmed both threats were hoaxes, but not before triggering large-scale security operations.
According to police officials, the emails were received around 10:30 AM, prompting immediate action from law enforcement agencies. At JNTU-H, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, and police teams conducted extensive searches across academic blocks, hostels, and administrative offices. Students and staff were evacuated and temporarily shifted to safer locations, including the JN Auditorium.
Simultaneously, a similar threat was reported at the AIR station, claiming that multiple chemical bombs had been planted on the premises. Security personnel carried out a thorough inspection, but no suspicious objects were found.
Authorities suspect a possible link between the two emails due to their timing and similar content. The Saifabad police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the threats and identify those responsible.
Despite the threats turning out to be false, officials emphasized that such incidents are treated with utmost seriousness due to potential risks. The police also warned that strict action would be taken against those found guilty of spreading panic through hoax threats.
The incident caused temporary disruption to normal activities at both institutions but also highlighted the preparedness of emergency response teams in handling such situations efficiently.
