A bomb threat at the Hyderabad office of the India Meteorological Department created panic on Friday morning before authorities confirmed that the message was a hoax.
The threatening email was received around 7:00 a.m. at the IMD office located in Begumpet, a major locality in Hyderabad. The message claimed that 14 RDX bombs had been planted inside the building and would explode soon.
An IMD employee noticed the suspicious email and immediately alerted senior officials. The authorities then informed the police, who quickly responded to the situation. Officers from the Begumpet police station, along with a bomb disposal squad, rushed to the location.
Security teams conducted a detailed inspection of the entire IMD premises. The search operation lasted several hours as officers checked offices, corridors, and surrounding areas for any suspicious objects or explosives.
During the search, police used specialized bomb detection equipment to ensure the safety of employees and the building. Meanwhile, the area around the IMD office was temporarily secured to prevent any potential risk.
After a thorough investigation, officials confirmed that no explosives were found anywhere on the premises. Authorities later declared the bomb threat to be a hoax.
Following the clearance from the bomb squad, IMD staff resumed their normal work activities later in the day. However, the incident caused temporary disruption and concern among employees.
Police officials have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for issuing a false threat. Investigators are currently tracing the origin of the email address used to send the message.
Officials stated that strict action will be taken against the person responsible for the hoax, as such threats create panic and waste valuable emergency resources.
The incident highlights the importance of cyber monitoring and quick emergency response systems in handling security threats in major cities like Hyderabad.
