Thiruvananthapuram, July 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Kerala through the weekend as an active southwest monsoon continues to influence weather conditions over the state. An Orange Alert has been issued for parts of Kerala, warning of intense rainfall that could lead to localized flooding, waterlogging, and landslides in vulnerable regions.
According to the IMD, widespread showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected over the next few days. The weather department has advised residents in hilly areas, riverbanks, and low-lying regions to remain alert, as prolonged rainfall could trigger landslides, flash floods, and rising water levels in streams and reservoirs.
District administrations and disaster management authorities have asked the public to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to exercise caution while driving on waterlogged roads.
Fishermen have also been urged to closely follow official marine weather bulletins before venturing into the sea, as rough conditions may prevail along parts of the Kerala coast.
Emergency response teams have been kept on standby, while local authorities are monitoring rainfall levels and the condition of dams, rivers, and landslide-prone locations. Residents have been advised to stay updated through official IMD forecasts and alerts, keep emergency supplies ready, and report any weather-related emergencies to local authorities without delay.
