Playing with the black pieces, Nihal Sarin entered the game well-prepared and gained a promising position in the Pirc Defence. He also enjoyed a significant advantage on the clock, putting pressure on the reigning world champion during the middle game. However, Gukesh displayed remarkable defensive accuracy and resilience, steering the game toward a drawn endgame despite facing difficult moments.
The draw highlighted Gukesh’s fighting spirit in his first classical tournament appearance in Chennai since becoming World Champion.
