A major political and legal controversy has gripped Kerala following the arrest of expelled Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in connection with a fresh sexual assault complaint, intensifying public debate over political accountability and justice for survivors.
In the early hours of Sunday, Kerala Police’s Crime Branch took Mamkootathil into custody from a hotel in Palakkad town based on a complaint filed by a woman alleging serious sexual offences. The MLA, who had been dismissed from his political party amid earlier allegations, was remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody after being presented before a magistrate in Pathanamthitta.
