In a major international development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his newly established Board of Peace initiative has secured more than $5 billion in pledges from member countries to support the reconstruction of war-torn Gaza. The announcement came ahead of the body’s first formal meeting in Washington, D.C., where the financial commitments are expected to be officially confirmed.
Trump, who chairs the Board of Peace, described the funding as a “historic step” toward rebuilding the devastated Palestinian territory. Leaders from around 25 nations are reported to have signed up to the initiative, committing to both financial aid and manpower contributions. In his social media announcement, he also highlighted the board’s intention to deploy thousands of personnel for an international stabilisation force and local policing efforts in Gaza.
While details about which countries will contribute specific funds have not been fully disclosed, Indonesia has indicated that up to 8,000 troops could be prepared for missions related to the plan by mid-year. Reconstruction costs for Gaza, damaged by over two years of conflict, are estimated far beyond the pledged amount, with international organisations previously suggesting a need of roughly $70 billion for full recovery.
The initiative forms part of a broader peace push aimed at consolidating a fragile ceasefire and promoting long-term stability in the region through coordinated international action. News as reported
