Kochi police have arrested five individuals in separate operations targeting the illegal trade of synthetic drugs, marking a significant step in the city’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive. The arrests followed weeks of surveillance based on intelligence inputs regarding drug distribution networks operating across urban and suburban areas.

During the raids, law enforcement officers recovered various synthetic substances, suspected to be intended for distribution among young users. Mobile phones, cash, and packaging materials were also seized, indicating organized operations rather than isolated possession. Officials stated that the accused were operating independently but were part of a wider network supplying drugs within the district.

Police officials expressed concern over the rising availability of synthetic drugs, which are often harder to detect and more dangerous due to unknown chemical compositions. The substances seized have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine their exact nature.

Authorities emphasized that enforcement alone is not sufficient and highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns in schools and colleges. Rehabilitation options for users are also being strengthened alongside stricter monitoring of repeat offenders.

The arrested individuals have been produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are underway to identify suppliers and funding sources behind the illegal trade.
