A tragic road accident in Hyderabad’s Moulali area late Tuesday night has left one person dead and three others injured, highlighting ongoing concerns around traffic safety and reckless driving on city roads. The collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Noor School, when a motorcycle carrying two men attempted to overtake a slower vehicle before violently crashing into a moped carrying two minors.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Deshpak Shreyanth, who worked as a store in-charge at a local Hyundai showroom. Shreyanth and his colleague, Mahesh, were riding together when the bike veered into the path of the moped due to what police described as “rash and negligent driving.” The impact caused the moped to catch fire, which was quickly extinguished by nearby residents.
Emergency services arrived promptly, transporting all four victims to a nearby government hospital. While Shreyanth was declared dead on arrival, the three other individuals — including the two minors — were reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Their families were notified and have since rushed to the hospital.
Police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bangalore and Hyderabad traffic laws, focusing on possible negligence and alcohol influence as contributing factors. Viscera samples from the deceased rider have been preserved for forensic analysis to determine whether intoxicants played a role.
Local residents and commuters expressed shock at the severe outcome of what began as a routine late-night ride. “The way vehicles speed on these narrow inner roads is frightening,” said one passerby. “We need stricter enforcement, better signage, and immediate action against rash driving.” Various community members also called for improved lighting and traffic calming measures to prevent similar tragedies.
Road safety activists pointed out that Hyderabad has seen a spike in traffic accidents in recent months, often involving young riders and two-wheelers. They urged authorities to launch targeted awareness campaigns, increase breath-analyzer checkpoints during late nights, and enforce helmet and speed regulations strictly to protect vulnerable road users.
