A severe spell of dense fog and cold wave conditions is expected to impact several states across North and Central India over the next few days, according to weather authorities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings highlighting a sharp drop in temperatures, accompanied by reduced visibility in many regions, particularly during early mornings and late evenings.
Fog formation is likely to remain widespread in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and parts of Madhya Pradesh. The IMD noted that dense to very dense fog may lead to significant disruptions in road, rail, and air travel, urging citizens to exercise caution while commuting. With visibility dropping to near-zero levels in some pockets, authorities have advised drivers to use fog lights and avoid high-speed travel.
Alongside the fog, cold wave conditions are expected to intensify, with minimum temperatures forecast to dip well below normal. Delhi, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh may experience night temperatures falling to the range of 2–5°C, contributing to the biting chill. Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to such conditions could impact vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and individuals with respiratory illnesses.
Local administrations are preparing to respond by opening temporary shelters and ensuring adequate heating arrangements in public spaces. Officials have urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe.
The coming days are expected to test residents’ resilience as winter conditions tighten their grip across several regions.
