Commuters using the Vypeen–Fort Kochi RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) ferry service have raised concerns over operational inefficiencies and infrastructure issues, calling for improved management through a dedicated system. The service, which connects Vypeen and Fort Kochi, is a crucial transport link for daily travelers and vehicle movement across the region.
Passengers and vehicle users have reported frequent delays, inconsistent scheduling, and congestion at ferry terminals, especially during peak hours. These issues have led to long waiting times and inconvenience for commuters who rely on the service for daily travel.
To address these challenges, commuters and local stakeholders have suggested the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to manage the RoRo service more efficiently. The proposed SPV would be responsible for overseeing operations, improving coordination, and ensuring better maintenance of ferry terminals and vessels.
Users have also highlighted the need for infrastructure upgrades, including improved docking facilities, better traffic management systems, and enhanced passenger amenities. They believe that a dedicated management body could help streamline operations and provide a more reliable and user-friendly service.
Authorities are reportedly reviewing the concerns raised by commuters and considering possible improvements to the service. The RoRo ferry is an important part of Kochi’s transport network, helping reduce road congestion and providing a faster alternative for crossing water bodies.
