A major disruption has hit Hyderabad as chicken shop owners across the city and Telangana have shut down their businesses starting April 1, 2026. This protest is part of a larger agitation by poultry retailers who are facing severe financial pressure due to shrinking profit margins.

According to reports, traders organized a large-scale protest (mahadharna) in Hyderabad, demanding fair commission rates and relief from rising operational costs such as transportation, feed prices, and labor expenses. Retailers claim that the current pricing system leaves them with minimal earnings, making it increasingly difficult to sustain their businesses.

The shutdown is expected to significantly impact daily life, especially restaurants, hotels, and households that rely heavily on chicken as a staple food. Supply shortages may lead to price increases in the coming days if the strike continues. Consumers have already started feeling the effects, with many shops remaining closed in key markets across the city.

Industry experts warn that prolonged protests could disrupt the entire poultry supply chain, affecting farmers, wholesalers, and transporters. Meanwhile, traders have urged the government to intervene and address their grievances quickly to avoid further economic losses.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and discussions between trader associations and officials are expected. Until a resolution is reached, Hyderabad residents may continue to face inconvenience due to limited availability of chicken products.
