The Central government has inaugurated a new National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) aimed at significantly strengthening India’s counter–Improvised Explosive Device (IED) framework and enhancing national security preparedness. The system has been developed to serve as a centralized digital platform for collecting, analyzing, and sharing data related to IED incidents across the country.
The NIDMS will enable security agencies, intelligence units, forensic departments, and law enforcement authorities to systematically record details of IED recoveries, blasts, defusal operations, and related investigations. By consolidating nationwide data, the platform is expected to help authorities identify patterns, trends, and emerging threats linked to IED usage by extremist and insurgent groups.
Officials said the system will improve inter-agency coordination by allowing real-time access to verified information, reducing duplication of efforts and response delays. Advanced analytical tools integrated into the platform will assist in threat assessment, risk mapping, and evidence-based decision-making, thereby strengthening preventive and reactive counter-IED measures.
The initiative also focuses on capacity building, as the data insights generated will support training programs for bomb disposal squads and field personnel. Lessons learned from past incidents can be systematically analyzed to refine standard operating procedures and enhance on-ground safety protocols.
The government emphasized that the launch of the National IED Data Management System marks an important step toward leveraging technology for internal security. By improving intelligence sharing and operational readiness, the platform is expected to bolster the country’s ability to prevent IED-related incidents, protect civilians, and support security forces in maintaining law and order nationwide news as reported.
