Boating services at Bhoothathankettu Dam, one of the popular tourist destinations in the Kochi region, have resumed after a suspension of nearly six months. The service had been temporarily halted due to safety checks, maintenance work, and improvements to tourist facilities at the site.
Tourism authorities decided to restart the boating operations after completing necessary repairs and safety upgrades. Officials stated that the resumption of boating will help attract more visitors to the scenic location, which is well known for its natural beauty, forest surroundings, and calm waters.
New safety guidelines have also been introduced for tourists using the boating service. Visitors are now required to wear life jackets during the ride, and trained operators will supervise all boating activities to ensure passenger safety. Authorities have also improved ticket counters, waiting areas, and other basic amenities to make the experience more comfortable for tourists.
Local tourism officials believe that restarting boating activities will benefit the nearby communities as well. Small businesses such as food stalls, souvenir shops, and local guides often depend on tourist visits for their income. With boating services resuming, the number of visitors to the area is expected to increase in the coming weeks.
Bhoothathankettu Dam is located along the Periyar River and is known for its unique rock formation and peaceful environment, making it a popular weekend getaway for residents of Kochi and nearby districts. Tourism officials hope that the reopening of boating services will further enhance the destination’s appeal and support the growth of eco-tourism in the region.
