In a significant move aimed at improving commuter experience, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to phase out full-body advertisement wraps on its buses. The decision follows widespread complaints from passengers who found it difficult to identify bus numbers and routes due to the large ads.

Currently, nearly 3,300 buses in Bengaluru carry these full-wrap advertisements, generating substantial revenue for the transport body. However, commuters argued that the advertisements often obscure essential information, causing confusion and delays during travel.

Transport officials acknowledged that while advertisements are an important source of non-fare revenue, public convenience must take priority. Concerns were also raised about the potential distraction these colorful wraps may cause to drivers, along with issues related to brand identity dilution.

Going forward, BMTC plans to restrict advertisements to smaller, designated sections of buses rather than covering the entire vehicle. Advertisers will also be required to restore the original paintwork after removing wraps, as some buses have suffered damage.

The move has been welcomed by daily commuters, who rely heavily on BMTC services for affordable transportation across the city. Improved visibility of route numbers is expected to enhance efficiency and reduce confusion at busy stops.

This decision reflects a broader shift toward balancing revenue generation with commuter needs, as Bengaluru continues to modernize its public transport system.
