Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) has officially inaugurated its largest super premium liquor retail outlet at the Vyttila Metro Station in Kochi, marking a first-of-its-kind move to integrate high-end retail within a major public transport hub. The fully air-conditioned outlet — named “High Spirits – A Bevco Boutique” — occupies approximately 4,600 square feet on the ground floor of the metro station and offers an extensive range of premium Indian and international liquor brands for discerning customers.
The outlet was inaugurated by Loknath Behra, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), in a ceremony that emphasised the broader vision of transforming metro stations into vibrant commercial and lifestyle destinations, rather than merely transit points. According to officials, this initiative is part of a strategic partnership between Bevco and KMRL to enhance non-fare revenue through leasing prime retail spaces at major metro and Water Metro terminals.
Designed to resemble a premium boutique experience rather than a traditional liquor shop, the outlet features modern shelving, wide aisles, and sophisticated display systems that allow customers to browse products comfortably. With capacity to store around 7,000 cases, the store aims to cater to both regular shoppers and tourists seeking high-quality spirits.
The store operates daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and while passengers can carry sealed bottles onboard Kochi Metro trains, the consumption of alcohol within station premises and on trains remains strictly prohibited. Bevco’s Managing Director highlighted that this upscale retail experience is expected to appeal to commuters, business travellers, and visitors alike, enhancing Kochi’s image as a modern urban centre with international-standard amenities.
This outlet is reportedly Bevco’s third super-premium boutique in the state, following similar ventures in cities like Thrissur and Kozhikode, and signals the corporation’s ongoing efforts to innovate liquor retail formats while boosting economic activity around key transport infrastructure.
