The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has introduced a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme to help residents clear long-pending water bills. This initiative comes after it was found that nearly 5.1 lakh water connections in Bengaluru have outstanding dues.
The total pending amount has reached a staggering ₹851.3 crore, including both principal and accumulated interest. To address this issue, the OTS scheme—valid from April to June 2026—offers partial interest waivers, making it easier for consumers to pay their dues.
Under the scheme, customers will receive detailed notices along with their water bills. These notices will include information about the original amount, waived interest, and the final payable sum. Authorities hope that simplifying the process will encourage more residents to settle their bills.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has supported the initiative, stating that it will benefit both the public and the water board. By recovering dues, BWSSB can improve its financial condition and invest more in water infrastructure projects.
The scheme is especially helpful for households that have accumulated large debts over time due to financial difficulties or oversight. Officials believe this move will significantly reduce pending dues and improve overall efficiency in water management.
