Bengaluru: Authorities in Bengaluru have proposed an ambitious plan to improve traffic conditions and pedestrian safety by constructing over 100 skywalks at key intersections across the city.
The proposal, put forward by city officials and traffic authorities, aims to reduce congestion and improve mobility in some of the city’s busiest corridors. Under the plan, 101 skywalks will be built at critical junctions where heavy traffic and pedestrian movement frequently lead to bottlenecks.
In addition to the skywalk project, authorities have identified 137 locations prone to waterlogging during the monsoon season. Repair work and drainage improvements will be carried out at these locations to prevent flooding and ensure smoother traffic flow during heavy rains.
The city also plans to reposition more than 100 bus stops to reduce road congestion and improve public transport efficiency. Officials say the move will help buses stop without blocking other vehicles, a common problem in many crowded areas.
Urban planners believe these measures could significantly improve daily commuting in India’s technology capital, which has long struggled with traffic jams due to rapid population growth and increasing vehicle numbers.
The proposals will be included in upcoming civic infrastructure budgets. If approved, construction work is expected to begin later this year.
Residents have welcomed the plan but emphasized the need for timely implementation. Experts say that while new infrastructure projects are important, long-term solutions such as better public transport and urban planning are essential to address Bengaluru’s traffic challenges.
