Bengaluru authorities have rolled out extensive safety and crowd management measures ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. With large crowds expected, officials are taking no chances following last year’s tragic stampede incident.
According to officials, over 500 CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the stadium, supported by AI-based monitoring systems to track crowd density in real time. Multiple security agencies, including city police, disaster response teams, and special units, will be deployed to ensure smooth operations.
Authorities have also introduced improved entry and exit systems, increasing the number of gates to 28 to reduce congestion. Spectators are being advised to arrive early to avoid last-minute rushes. Traffic restrictions will be enforced on key roads such as Queens Road to ease vehicular movement near the stadium.
In a significant move, metro services will be closely integrated with match-day arrangements. Fans traveling via the Namma Metro may benefit from special services and smoother connectivity to stations like Cubbon Park and MG Road.
Officials emphasized that only valid ticket holders will be allowed near the venue and urged the public to follow guidelines strictly. Mock drills have already been conducted to test emergency response systems.
The preparations highlight the city’s effort to balance enthusiasm for cricket with public safety. With IPL being one of the most-watched sporting events in India, Bengaluru is aiming to set a benchmark in crowd management and urban event planning.
As the tournament approaches, authorities remain on high alert to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for fans.
