Several areas of Bengaluru recently experienced scheduled power cuts as part of maintenance work carried out by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). The outages affected many neighborhoods in the city and lasted from around 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Officials said the power cuts were necessary to carry out repair and infrastructure improvement work in the electricity network.
According to BESCOM, the maintenance activities included upgrading power lines, replacing old equipment, and conducting safety inspections. These measures are intended to improve the reliability of electricity supply and reduce the chances of unexpected power failures in the future.
Residents in the affected areas were advised in advance to plan their daily activities accordingly. However, the long hours of power cuts caused inconvenience for many households, businesses, and students. Some people complained that the outages disrupted work-from-home schedules, online classes, and business operations.
Despite the inconvenience, electricity officials explained that such maintenance work is essential for maintaining the city’s power infrastructure. Bengaluru is one of India’s fastest-growing cities, with increasing demand for electricity due to expanding residential areas, technology parks, and industries.
Experts say that regular upgrades and inspections of the power grid are necessary to support the city’s rapid growth. They also suggest that the government should continue investing in modern energy systems, including renewable energy and smart grid technology, to ensure stable power supply in the future.
BESCOM officials have assured citizens that the maintenance work will help improve electricity reliability across Bengaluru. Authorities also promised to provide advance notices for future power outages so that residents can prepare for temporary disruptions.
